The Art Dealers Association of America, the nation's leading art dealers, will present a select group of member exhibitors at the nineteenth annual Art Show. Seventy of the nation's most prominent art dealers will exhibit paintings, sculpture, drawings, prints, and photographs by artists of all periods, from the 15th century to modern and contemporary masters. Works of art valued at thousands to millions of dollars will be shown. Exhibitors often save their best works specifically to put on view at The Art Show for the prestigious international art audience that is drawn to the exhibition. our focus is women in the art world. On the occasion of major shows, books, and conferences on feminist art at the Museum of Modern Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, we assess the state of feminist art today. We interview renowned scholar Linda Nochlin, cocurator of the inaugural exhibition at the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art opening at the Brooklyn Museum. And we profile Korean-born artist Kimsooja, whose labor-intensive fabric projects, performances, and installations comment on female identity and exile. Next month, we focus on photography. We look at the new strategies artists are using to respond to war, especially the landscape of war. We profile Robert Polidori, whose ravishing images document layers of history and traces of past lives in such settings as Chernobyl, Havana, and Versailles. We survey up-and-coming artists who are finding ways to infuse works of sound and light with political and social content. And we talk to Oxford art-history professor Martin Kemp about the Universal Leonardo project, which promotes interest in the artist through exhibitions, scientific research, and the Internet.
